The Leaning Tower of Pisa or "torre pendente di Pisa" is an Italian Architectural marvel from the Medieval times. In simpler terms, it is literally a bell tower, or a campanille.
Leaning on one side, the top has veered off the center by 17 feet. Cement has been injected on the foundation of the tower to hopefully stop the further leaning of the structure. Some experts suggestted to take the structure apart piece by piece and rebuild the whole tower in another, more stable location.
The tower is just one of four buildings that make up Campo dei Miracoli or Piazza dei Miracoli. This is Cattedrale Metropolitana Primaziale di Santa Maria Assunta or Duomo di Pisa. This church of Pisan Romanesque architecture is the seat of the Archbishop of Pisa.
This is Battistero di San Giovanni, or the Pisa Baptistery of St. John just a few blocks from Catedrale di Pisa. In Christian architecture, A baptistery is usually a separated but centrally planned structure. The sacrament of baptism is administered in this building.
This is Porta Nuova Pisa, the gateway to Piazza dei Miracoli, formally known as Piazza del Duomo. Travel hrough Pisa at your own pace. Visit the famous Leaning Tower and other architectural wonders, accompanied by a private driver. Book now with GetYourGuide
