Polish composer and solo pianist Fryderyk Franciszek Chopin was born and raised in Warsaw. This monument at Lazienki Park dedicated in his honor was destroyed during World War II. The original mould for the statue which survived the war, made it possible to cast a replica, and was placed in its original place in 1958. Since 1959, free piano recitals of Chopin's compositions have been performed at the statue's base on summer Sunday afternoons.
Pomnik Bohaterów Getta, or the Monument to the Ghetto Heroes, commemorating the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising of 1943 during World War II. Built partially of Nazi German materials, the monument stands at the spot where the first armed clash of the uprising took place.
