Brandenburger Tor, or The Brandenburger Gate, is perhaps the most iconic image and best known landmarks that represents Germany. Built before the 18th century as one of eighteen gates within the Berlin customs walls, it was commissioned to represent peace and was originally named Friedenstor, or Peace Gate. Designed by Carl Gotthard Langhans, the gate draws inspiration from Greek monumental gateways, also known as Propylaea. Atop the gate is a chariot drawn by four horses, driven by Victoria, Roman goddess of victory.

Berlin Siegessäule, is another Berlin icon. Inaugurated in 1873, its purpose and representation has changed as years passed. From originally built to commemorate war victories such as Prussian victory in the Second Schleswig War and the victory in the Austro-Prussian War, to the end of the Battle in Berlin. In modern times, it served as backdrop to US President Barrack Obama's speech and an important element to U2's music video for the song "Stay (Faraway, So Close!)". It is often referred to by locals as Goldelse, meaning Golden Lizzy.
