Known as the "Jerusalem of Europe" or "Jerusalem of the Balkans," Sarajevo is the capital and largest city of Bosnia & Herzegovina. It is a melting pot of different faiths having a mosque, a Catholic Church, a Synagogue and an Orthodox Church within the same neighborhood.
In October 2019, Sarajevo was designated as a UNESCO Creative City for placing culture at the center of its development strategies.
Sarajevo has survived years of conflict from the Bosnian War and the break up of Yugoslavia. In 1993, this bridge witnessed the tragedy that has captured the people's imagination worldwide through a documentary of what is now known as Romeo and Juliet of Sarajevo. Bosko and Admira both were killed by sniper bullets as they were fleeing Sarajevo. The two are now buried together, side by side in Lion Cemetery, surrounded by thousands of other victims from the siege of Sarajevo. #BiHy
