Waterford traces its roots to the Viking settlers in 853, creating what would be Ireland's first city. In the 12th century during the Anglo-Norman invasion of Ireland, King Henry II of England landed at Waterford in 1171, declaring Waterford a royal city.

This is the Clock Tower in Meagher's Quay, along River Suir. This Gothic-Revival tower made of cut granite and limestone was built in 1863.  In the 19th century, Waterford was Ireland's busiest industrial port. This tower is a renowned landmark in the quay.
